SALT 2-Hook Clipped Rig

Overview

The Shakespeare SALT 2-Hook Clipped Rig is a ready-tied sea fishing rig from Shakespeare's SALT range, built to present two separate baits in a streamlined, clipped-down configuration for casting at distance. The SALT range was developed by Shakespeare for European sea fishing, covering both shore and boat applications.

Built around a 60 lb mainline/rig body, this clipped rig is supplied completely ready tied, giving anglers a convenient option without the need to build their own two-hook rig from scratch. It comes as one complete rig per pack.

The rig is available in two hook sizes — Size 2 and Size 1/0 — so anglers can choose the version that best matches their bait and target species.

Perfect For

This rig is positioned primarily as a beachcasting and shore fishing setup for anglers who want to fish two baits at range. Because the hook snoods and baits are clipped closer to the rig body rather than hanging freely as on a conventional flapper, it creates a neater package during the cast, which matters when distance is important.

The smaller Size 2 version is a good general-purpose choice for mixed shore species and smaller bait presentations, while the Size 1/0 version suits anglers fishing larger baits for bigger shore species such as cod and bass. The rig format works well with common UK shore baits including lugworm, ragworm, squid, crab and fish baits, with bait size chosen to suit the hook variant and target species.

Technical Insight

Unlike a standard two-hook flapper rig, where the hook snoods are left free during the cast, the clipped design on this SALT rig holds the hooks and baits closer to the rig body. This reduces drag and tangling in flight, helping create a more aerodynamic presentation that can be cast further and more cleanly than an unclipped arrangement.

This clipped-down construction is what separates it from a generic ready-made flapper rig, making it a dedicated choice for anglers specifically targeting distance with a two-bait presentation. The 60 lb rig body provides the strength needed for beachcasting applications where a sea fishing rig needs to withstand repeated casting and fighting fish from the shore.
