INOVA Candy Floss Mackerel Rig

Overview

The INOVA Candy Floss Mackerel Rig is a mackerel and pollack lure trace built around five size #1 hooks, tied on a strong 50lb / 0.60mm mainline with 30lb / 0.45mm snoods. Each lure on the string combines UV white, pink and yellow skirts with a silver streamer and a lumi bead, giving the rig a distinctive, brightly multicoloured appearance compared to other INOVA patterns.

Unlike many sea-fishing feathers which arrive as bare components, the Candy Floss comes ready assembled with a swivel and lead link already fitted. This means anglers can attach it straight to their mainline and lead without needing to add extra terminal tackle before fishing.

With five lures per string, the Candy Floss sits between INOVA's four-hook patterns such as Mackerel Magnet, Devils Hokkai and Blu-Tube, and the six-hook Scarlet Flash and Silver Mist rigs, offering a middle-ground option for anglers who want more lures in the water than a standard four-hook trace.

Perfect For

This rig is designed primarily for catching mackerel and pollack, and is suitable for use from both the shore and boat. On the shore, the Candy Floss can be fished from beaches, rock marks, piers and harbour walls, worked through the water with a lead attached to draw fish in with its flash and colour.

Beyond its primary mackerel and pollack use, the rig can also be baited and fished closer to the seabed, with gurnard, cod and wrasse named as additional species that can be targeted this way.

Technical Insight

The combination of UV white, pink and yellow skirts with a silver streamer and lumi bead is intended to create a strong visual presentation, combining colour, movement, flash and luminous attraction as the rig moves through the water. The silver hooks add to this reflective effect.

The 50lb / 0.60mm mainline and 30lb / 0.45mm snoods provide a sturdy construction, noticeably heavier than finer baitfish rigs such as Skinners Flash Fry, making the Candy Floss better suited to actively targeting mackerel, pollack and similar species rather than fine Sabiki-style baitfishing.
