Kali Kunnan Double baiting needles

Overview

The Kali Kunnan Double Baiting Needles are a twin-needle sea-fishing bait-preparation tool designed to make handling soft, delicate baits easier before they go onto the hook or rig. Instead of a single needle, each tool uses two parallel metal needles that give the bait extra support while it's being shaped and secured.

Each needle is fitted with a moulded black handle for a secure grip during preparation, and the tools are supplied as 2 pieces per pack. The twin-needle design gives the angler a temporary framework to build the bait around, rather than relying purely on fingers to hold everything in place.

The range covers two sizes - Medium and Large - both measuring 15cm in length but with different needle spacing to suit different bait bulk.

These baiting needles are aimed at sea anglers preparing mussels, shrimps, worms and fish baits that need binding with bait elastic before casting. The narrower Medium size, at 10mm spacing, suits smaller and slimmer bait presentations, while the wider 15mm Large size gives a broader platform for bulkier baits.

For shore anglers casting hard, using the twin needles to build a neater, more compact bait package can help before the bait is clipped down and cast out, although the finished bait's ability to withstand casting still depends on the bait, elastic and rig used.

Technical Insight

The two parallel needles work by giving the bait a stable framework to sit on while it is threaded, shaped and then wrapped with bait elastic. Kali Kunnan describes this as helping prevent the bait from spinning or becoming loose while it's being tied, which is a common issue when trying to bind very soft baits by hand alone.

Once the bait is secured on the needles, it can simply be slid off and transferred straight onto the hook or rig, ready to fish. This makes the process of preparing awkward, soft bait cocktails considerably tidier and more controlled than freehand binding.
