Mepps Comet DecoreeSize 1, 3.5g

Overview

The Mepps Comet Decoree Size 1 is a compact inline spinner weighing 3.5g, built around the brand's distinctive Comet blade and classic spotted finish. It sits in the Comet Decoree range and comes fitted with a treble hook, supplied as 1 lure per pack.

The Comet blade rotates at approximately 45 degrees, producing flash, vibration and a variable spinning action intended to mimic distressed or wounded prey. At 3.5g this is the next size up from the tiny Size 00 (1.5g) and Size 0 (2g) versions, giving a little extra casting weight while still remaining firmly in ultralight lure territory.

The verified UK variant is the Copper/Blue Dot pattern, supplied under code RMCD01-CB (Glasgow Angling Centre house code DO12509). Internationally, Size 1 Comets are also produced in Silver/Blue Dot, Silver/Red Dot and Gold/Red Dot patterns.

Perfect For

This spinner suits ultralight and light lure fishing where a small, lively bait with plenty of flash and vibration is needed. Mepps doesn't market it specifically as a UK saltwater lure, but for sea-fishing customers the 3.5g weight makes it a practical LRF-style spinner.

It's particularly useful for working close-range marks such as harbour walls, rock edges, piers and sheltered areas, where small pollack and other small predatory sea fish are sensible practical targets. As dedicated saltwater corrosion protection hasn't been confirmed for this model, rinsing with fresh water and drying it after sea use is recommended.

Technical Insight

The Comet blade's approximately 45° rotation is central to how this lure fishes — it generates a strong flash-and-vibration signature relative to its small size, along with a variable spinning action that changes character as it's retrieved. This combination is designed to replicate the erratic movement of injured prey, triggering reaction strikes from nearby predators.

Compared with the Size 00 and Size 0 Comets, the 3.5g Size 1 casts a little further and fishes a touch deeper or faster without losing the delicate, ultralight presentation that makes the range effective for finesse-style spinning in freshwater or light sea fishing situations.
