Mustad Chebu Chebu Hooks

Overview

The Mustad Chebu Hook, reference 33863NP-BN, is a Cheburashka-style lure hook engineered specifically for interchangeable-weight soft-plastic rigs rather than functioning as a standard offset hook. It's forged for strength and finished in Black Nickel, with Mustad's 1X Strong wire specification giving the hook extra robustness for lure fishing duties.

The point is Mustad's 4.3 UltraPoint, a chemically sharpened system engineered to stay sharp and resist rolling or dulling while fishing. Combined with the forged construction, this gives the hook a durable, dependable build quality suited to repeated casting and contact with fish.

The standout feature, however, is the oversized round eye. Rather than simply taking line, this enlarged eye is designed to articulate freely when connected to a Cheburashka weight, creating a hinged link between weight, hook and soft plastic.

Perfect For

These hooks are designed around soft-plastic lure fishing, where the Chebu weight is attached via a wire or clip and the soft lure is mounted directly onto the hook. Because the weight isn't permanently moulded to the hook, anglers can combine different hook sizes, Chebu weights and soft-lure sizes without needing a separate jig head for every combination.

For UK sea anglers, this makes the Mustad Chebu Hook a practical choice for building articulated soft-plastic presentations for species such as bass, pollack and wrasse, depending on the hook size, lure and tackle used. Hook choice should be based on the thickness and length of the soft plastic itself, with the Chebu weight then selected independently according to depth, current and presentation.

Technical Insight

The extra-short shank is a deliberate design choice, giving the hook enough freedom to pivot behind the weight rather than locking the lure rigidly in place as a conventional jig head would. This allows more of the soft plastic to move independently, improving the natural action of the lure.

The oversized eye and short shank work together with the 1X Strong wire and forged build to create a hinged weight-to-lure connection without sacrificing strength. The 4.3 UltraPoint technology rounds out the design, maintaining a sharp, penetrating point throughout a session of casting and retrieving.
