Overview

The Fenix HM65R V2.0 NITERAY is a UK-exclusive rechargeable headlamp developed specifically for outdoor, professional and fishing use, distinct from the standard Fenix HM65R-T V2.0 trail-running model despite the similar name. Built from lightweight magnesium alloy, it delivers a maximum combined output of 2200 lumens and a beam reaching out to 230 metres, while weighing approximately 144g complete with battery and headband. It combines three independently controllable lighting systems – spotlight, floodlight and red light – giving anglers a genuinely versatile tool for after-dark sessions.

Power comes from an included, removable Fenix ARB-L18-3400 18650 battery rated at 3400mAh, charged directly through a protected USB-C port in around 2.5 hours, with the option to keep using the headlamp while it charges. The NITERAY carries an IP68 rating tested to 2 metres, plus 2m impact resistance, making it a genuinely rugged option for exposed shorelines and rocky marks.

Comfort and control have been carefully considered too, with Fenix's SPORT click-adjustable headband, an additional conventional headband, an emergency whistle, a four-LED battery indicator, and both electronic and physical lockout to prevent accidental activation in a tackle bag.

The spotlight's 230m beam is ideal for finding your way across beaches or rocks in the dark, while the floodlight provides broad, close-range illumination around the tripod for baiting hooks, tying rigs and unhooking fish. The dedicated red-light system, running from a subtle 3 lumens up to a powerful 140 lumens, helps preserve night vision without flooding the whole beach in white light – something regular night-session anglers will appreciate.

The purpose-built 175-lumen Work Mode, combining flood and spot together for a quoted 14 hours 14 minutes runtime, makes this headlamp particularly well suited to long overnight sea fishing sessions where a single charge needs to last.

Technical Insight

The NITERAY's magnesium alloy body is around 30% lighter than an equivalent aluminium construction, which matters considerably on a headtorch since every gram sits on your forehead for hours at a time. A removable ARB-L18-3400 battery means anglers aren't tied to a sealed internal cell – spare batteries can be carried and swapped mid-session rather than waiting out a recharge.

Brightness memory on both the spotlight and floodlight means the lamp returns to your last-used setting rather than cycling from the beginning, while a double-click gives direct access to the red-light modes without needing to pass through every white-light level first.
