Overview

The Fenix HP35R is a professional-grade rechargeable headlamp designed for anglers who need serious night-time illumination on the shore. It combines a long-range 3000-lumen spotlight with a wide 1200-lumen floodlight, and both beams can be run together for a combined output of 4000 lumens and a maximum beam distance of 450 metres.

Power comes from a removable 10,000mAh rechargeable battery pack mounted at the rear of the headband, built internally from two 5000mAh cells. The pack is quick-release, so it can be detached and carried separately using the supplied extension cable, an arrangement Fenix also says helps keep the battery warmer in cold winter conditions.

Construction uses aircraft-grade aluminium and quality plastics, a toughened ultra-clear AR-coated lens and a smooth aluminium reflector, with a complete weight of 433g including battery and headband.

Perfect For

The HP35R's broad, warm 3000K flood is suited to close-range fishing tasks such as baiting hooks, tying rigs, unhooking fish and organising tackle, while the 4500K spotlight is there for finding a route across a beach, scanning along rocks or picking out a distant marker. This dual system makes it well suited to night beach fishing, rock fishing, winter sessions and long walks to remote marks.

It's aimed at anglers spending an entire night on the shore, where the low 50-lumen and 5-lumen settings handle most rig work while the 4000-lumen turbo setting is reserved for when real distance or brightness is needed. The rear red safety light, with constant and flashing modes, is useful for shore anglers walking along roads or car parks where being seen from behind matters.

Technical Insight

The rotary selector switches between off, spotlight, floodlight and combined modes, with a central push button cycling through low, medium, high and turbo on the selected system; Fenix describes the controls as glove-friendly, which matters for winter shore fishing. An aluminium heat-sink and automatic thermal management, including an overheat step-down at 55°C and proximity/brightness downshifting, keep the lamp safe to use at close range during high-output operation.

The battery pack's USB-C port supports PD3.0/PD2.0 fast charging at up to 27W, giving a full charge in around 2 hours, and doubles as a 20W power bank for charging a phone or other USB device during long sessions. With an IP66 rating for weather and dust resistance plus 2m impact resistance, the HP35R is built to withstand rain and harsh outdoor conditions, though it isn't rated for full immersion.
