Overview

The Fenix HP25R V2.0 is a rechargeable headlamp designed for anglers who fish after dark, combining a powerful 1600-lumen spotlight with a neutral-white floodlight and a low-level red light in one compact head unit.

Power comes from an included, replaceable Fenix ARB-L21-5000 21700 Li-ion battery with a 5000mAh capacity, housed in a rear-mounted battery pack that helps balance the weight of the unit. The headlamp weighs 238g including the battery and headband, and charges via USB-C in around four hours from a suitable 5V/2A supply.

Built to IP66 weather resistance and rated to withstand impacts from 2 metres, the HP25R V2.0 is constructed for the sort of rough handling a headlamp receives during long overnight fishing sessions.

With three separate lighting systems, the HP25R V2.0 suits a wide range of night fishing tasks. The 1600-lumen spotlight throws a beam up to 290m, useful for scanning the shoreline or spotting distant landmarks during night sea fishing sessions.

The 400-lumen neutral-white floodlight, with a maximum flood distance of around 50 metres, is well suited to close-range tasks such as baiting hooks, tying rigs, unhooking fish and organising tackle without a harsh narrow hotspot. The 5-lumen red light preserves night vision and avoids blasting white light across the beach, while the spotlight and floodlight can be run simultaneously for illuminating a close working area while retaining distance vision — a genuine benefit for long overnight shore sessions, given the light's -35°C to +45°C operating range.

Technical Insight

The HP25R V2.0's three separate LEDs — a Luminus SST40 spotlight, Cree XP-G3 S4 neutral-white floodlight and Everlight 2835 red LED — allow each beam to be optimised for its purpose rather than relying on one LED across multiple brightness settings. Fenix's UK distributor notes that the High and Turbo spotlight modes maintain their maximum 1000 and 1600-lumen output for around 10 minutes before stepping down for thermal protection, with the quoted 7 and 6-hour runtimes reflecting reduced output afterwards.

The 60° tilt mechanism allows the beam to be angled down toward a baiting area or further along the beach, and dual lockout protection — combining an electronic lockout with a physical/plastic system — helps prevent the light activating accidentally inside a tackle bag. A perforated, breathable headband with reflective elements on both the band and battery compartment adds visibility in low light.
