Overview

The Saltwater Pro Sea Float Kit is a ready-to-use sliding sea-fishing float setup designed for anglers who want the main components for float fishing in one convenient pack.

The range is sold by float length, with 4", 5" and 7" kits currently available. The 5" kit is the most clearly documented version, containing a sea float, a ring of float stops, two beads, a weight, a swivel and two hooks – far more than just a float and a weight.

Because the core terminal components are already selected as a matched set, the kit removes much of the guesswork that can put beginners off float fishing, while still being a handy grab-and-go option for more experienced anglers.

Perfect For

These kits are built for shore-based sea fishing from rocks, piers, harbour walls and other shore marks, rather than for one specific species.

Practical UK targets for this style of rig include mackerel, garfish, pollack, wrasse and bass, depending on the mark, depth, bait, hook size and tackle used. Mackerel and garfish are particularly well suited to float fishing since both are often found relatively high in the water column, while pollack and wrasse fishing around rocky ground and harbour structures benefits from the ability to fish deeper without a snag-prone rig sitting on the seabed.

The 4" kit suits more compact, lighter presentations in calmer conditions, the 5" is a useful general-purpose middle size, and the 7" offers a larger, more visible float for situations where extra buoyancy or visibility helps.

Technical Insight

The sliding-float design is the key to how this rig works. Rather than fixing the float at a set depth, the float stop is positioned on the mainline and can be moved higher up the line to fish deeper, or towards the hook to fish shallower – allowing an angler to search different depths without rebuilding the rig.

The bead included in the kit acts as the interface between the stop and the float: the stop halts the bead, and the bead in turn stops the float, since the float's eye or bore may otherwise pass over a small stop. The included weight provides the ballast needed to cock the float correctly and pull the bait down into the water, and because it's matched to the supplied float within the kit, there's no need to work out compatible weights separately – ideal for anglers who are new to float fishing.
