Overview

The Sidewinder Sandeel 6" 25g is a pre-rigged soft-plastic lure that has become a classic among UK sea-fishing soft lures, imitating a natural sandeel profile with a soft latex body. It features an internal built-in weight, a holographic insert and a deep paddle tail, all combined to produce a lifelike swimming action and vibration as it moves through the water.

Each lure is fitted with a Mustad hook and comes fully rigged, so it's ready to fish straight from the packet without the need to attach a separate jig head. This is the classic/original 25g Sandeel, supplied 3 lures per pack, and should not be confused with the newer Sidewinder Skerries Pro 35g or Rattleback models.

The soft latex body and deep paddle tail are central to how this lure fishes — the body itself contributes to the swimming action, unlike a hard lure or metal jig, moving from side to side to create visible action and vibration as water passes over it.

Perfect For

This lure is designed for both boat fishing and casting from the shore. On the boat, it has built much of its reputation drifting over wrecks and reefs, fished on a flying-collar style rig, with colour and retrieve speed varied to find the productive combination — a very natural size for pollack in particular.

From the shore, the 25g weight is light enough to work naturally but heavy enough for useful casting with suitable lure tackle, making it well suited to bass and pollack fishing. It is aimed at anglers targeting pollack, bass and cod around areas where predators are feeding on sandeels.

Technical Insight

The internal, built-in 25g weighting keeps the lure stable in the water and contributes to its swimming action, removing the need for a separate jig head. The holographic insert found on standard holographic colour versions creates flashes as the lure changes angle underwater, complementing the physical movement of the paddle tail.

The deep paddle tail is one of the defining features of the classic Sidewinder design, generating both visible action and vibration without requiring complicated manipulation from the angler. Combined with the quality Mustad hook, the lure is built to be fished straight out of the pack in both boat and shore situations.
