Sidewinder Skerries Pro 22g

Overview

The Sidewinder Skerries Pro 22g is a pre-rigged sandeel-style soft lure measuring 125mm/5" and weighing 22g, sold as a 2-pack. It's the smallest version in the current Skerries Pro range, developed by Sidewinder in conjunction with John Locker of The Fish Locker following around 12 months of testing.

The lure features a quality latex body finished in Sidewinder's own "Shimmer Skin" for a detailed, reflective appearance, along with a best quality Mustad hook pre-rigged for immediate use. Sidewinder has also built in a Sonic Chamber containing a micro rattle, adding an audible/vibrational element to the lure as it works through the water.

The lure retains the brand's established "Famous Skerries Eel action", designed to reproduce the movement of a sandeel when retrieved, and is available in seven official colours: Super Real, Super Pearl, Dusk, Dawn, The Pink One, The Yellow One and Candy King.

Perfect For

The 125mm/22g combination makes this a shore-oriented, lightest option in the standard Skerries Pro range, giving anglers enough casting weight for good distance while remaining suitable for shallow-to-medium water retrieves. Sidewinder itself describes the range as suitable for both boat and shore fishing.

It's a logical choice for UK bass lure fishing from beaches, rocks and estuaries where sandeel-style soft plastics are effective. It can also be worked around rocky ground and structure for pollack, letting the lure sink before retrieving through the target depth, and is relevant for coalfish feeding on small baitfish.

Technical Insight

The soft latex body is what generates the Skerries Eel swimming action, while the Shimmer Skin finish adds a reflective, lifelike appearance to the lure's profile. Sidewinder identifies the built-in Sonic Chamber and micro rattle as a core feature of the Pro version, adding extra sound and vibration as the lure moves through the water to increase its underwater attraction.

The 22g weight sits at the lighter end of the Skerries Pro range (compared with the 35g and 55g versions), giving it the lowest sink rate of the three sizes and the lightest casting weight, while still carrying enough mass for effective shore casting.
