Ultima F1 Black 4oz is a high-performance monofilament mainline built specifically for serious beach and surfcasting anglers. Manufactured from a super-soft copolymer nylon, it is engineered around the combination of casting performance, strength, knot strength and abrasion resistance that competition shore anglers demand.

Ultima has used F1 in national and international competition for more than 30 years, giving the line genuine competition pedigree rather than simply marketing claims. It sits alongside Ultima's other mono lines as a dedicated performance shore product rather than a general-purpose everyday mono.

The Black colourway offers a discreet alternative to the high-visibility oranges, yellows and reds also found in the F1 range. It's supplied on a 4oz bulk spool, with breaking strains from 12lb to 30lb giving anglers a choice of diameter depending on the balance of casting distance and strength required.

Perfect For

F1 Black is positioned for beach fishing, surfcasting, match fishing, long-range bait fishing and clean/mixed-ground shore fishing. The finer 12lb and 15lb options suit anglers prioritising maximum casting distance, while 18lb and 20lb give a strong balance of casting performance and additional strength for general UK shore fishing.

The heavier 25lb and 30lb options are suited to applications where extra strength matters more than achieving the very finest diameter. The line is suitable for use on both fixed spool and multiplier reels, making it a versatile mainline choice across different beachcasting setups.

Technical Insight

F1's relatively high strength-to-diameter ratio is central to its performance: as breaking strain increases from 12lb (0.30mm) up to 25lb (0.40mm), the diameter progression is kept consistent, helping reduce resistance through the rod guides and off the spool during casting.

The soft, supple copolymer construction is designed to combine two characteristics that don't always sit together — a line soft enough to cast efficiently, yet tough enough with high abrasion resistance to cope with contact from shingle, shells and mixed-ground structure. High knot strength is also a defining feature, which matters because the knot connecting mainline to leader or terminal tackle is typically the weakest point in a beach fishing setup.
