Overview

Asso Knight is a Japanese-made, fluorocarbon-coated nylon monofilament mainline built around visibility, casting performance and abrasion resistance. It combines a nylon core with a fluorocarbon coating, giving it the breaking-load and dynamic properties of nylon alongside some of the abrasion-resistant characteristics associated with fluorocarbon.

The standout feature is its Fluorescent Green colour, which fluoresces under UV and LED light, including under a headtorch. This is paired with low memory and low stretch for a nylon-based mono, helping the line leave the spool cleanly during casting and giving a more direct connection to terminal tackle.

Supplied on a 4oz (¼lb) spool, Knight is available across a range of breaking strains with a diameter-to-strength ratio that lets anglers step up in breaking strain without jumping into very heavy mainline diameters.

Perfect For

Asso Knight's clearest strength is night fishing, where its fluorescent green colour becomes much easier to follow under a headtorch than clear or dark mono, helping anglers track where the line enters the water, spot slack, and see crossed lines on busy beaches or during night matches.

It's also well suited to beach casting and surfcasting, where its low memory, relatively fine diameters and smooth, supple construction help it perform well off both fixed-spool and multiplier reels. The fluorocarbon coating gives useful protection over mixed ground and moderately abrasive terrain, though for severe rock and kelp fishing a dedicated rough-ground line would be a better fit.

Technical Insight

The fluorocarbon coating over a nylon core is the key to how Knight performs: it retains the dynamic, castable properties of nylon monofilament while gaining improved abrasion resistance from the coating, rather than behaving as a 100% fluorocarbon line. This construction is what allows Knight to combine visibility and casting performance with genuine toughness for shore fishing.

Low memory reduces the line's tendency to hold tight coils after sitting on the spool, which translates into cleaner casts and fewer tangles, while the reduced stretch (relative to typical nylon mono) improves feedback and connection to the terminal tackle at distance. Together with its diameter-to-breaking-strain relationship, this makes Knight a casting-oriented shore mainline rather than simply a high-visibility line.
