Overview

Gemini Genie Neoprene Tubing is a soft, compressible rig-building material designed for sea-fishing terminal tackle. Unlike Gemini's silicone or PVC tubing, this neoprene sleeve is intended for jobs where a soft, gripping and cushioning material is more useful than a rigid one.

Supplied as a continuous 1-metre length in black, the tubing isn't sold as pre-cut pieces — anglers simply cut off the section length they need for the job in hand. It's a flexible, general-purpose material rather than a load-bearing component, so it's not rated for breaking strain.

Because it's not species- or rig-specific, it's a handy item to keep in the rig-building box for whenever a soft sleeve is needed rather than a hard bead or metal crimp.

Perfect For

This neoprene tubing is well suited to creating movable rig stops, where a short section grips the line and helps locate swivels, beads, snood assemblies, clips and other terminal components without necessarily fixing them permanently with a crimp.

It also works well as a protective sleeve over knots and connections, adding cushioning and a tidier finish, and as a soft buffer between components that might otherwise repeatedly knock against one another.

As a general rig-building material, it can potentially be incorporated into flapper rigs, clipped rigs, pulley rigs, Pulley Pennel rigs, paternosters, scratching rigs and rough-ground rigs — though whether it's needed depends on how the individual rig is put together.

The key characteristic of neoprene, compared with Gemini's silicone or PVC tubing, is that it's soft and compressible rather than firm. This allows a short section to grip line while still flexing, which is exactly what's needed for a movable rig stop that positions components without a permanent crimp.

It's worth being clear that neoprene doesn't add strength — it doesn't increase the rated breaking strain of the line or knot it's used with. Its role is purely protection, cushioning and positioning, which is a different job to Gemini's Glow PVC tubing, which is firmer and used mainly for visibility, stand-off and luminous attraction rather than grip and cushioning.
