Overview

The Kali Kunnan Samsara Shangrila Team 4.18m is a three-piece continental surfcasting rod built around a High Modulus Carbon QGX blank with triple-braided carbon reinforcement. The construction uses two crossed carbon spirals at 45° plus a third crossing structure, a design intended to boost strength and power while keeping the blank lighter.

Despite its 100–250g casting rating, the rod weighs just 526g and has a slim 22mm butt diameter. The three-piece asymmetric construction packs down to a transport length of 147cm, making it practical to carry to the mark.

This is reference 12111, UK distributor code AC-12111, distinctly different from both the Samsara TW91 and the newer Shangrila Team 45 rods.

With a casting rating of 100–250g, this surf rod is suited to anglers casting larger leads and baits from the beach or rock marks, where casting distance and power matter. The TEAM Hybrid Tip is designed to show very small bites at distance without compromising the rod's casting capability, making it useful for surfcasting situations where bite detection at range is important.

The ergonomic Surf Terminal Grip is intended to give a more secure, comfortable hold and improve control during the cast, which suits anglers casting repeatedly through a session of beach or surfcasting.

Technical Insight

The QGX blank's triple-braided carbon mesh, with its crossed 45° layers plus an additional crossing structure, is engineered to reduce unwanted blank deformation during the cast so more of the casting load is transmitted through the rod rather than lost to flex. Combined with the asymmetric three-piece section design, this is intended to deliver power and strength without unnecessary added weight.

The Fuji RV and K/KW Torzite guide setup, mounted on titanium frames, pairs an anti-tangle guide geometry with premium Torzite rings for smooth, low-friction line flow during long casts. A Fuji fibre/graphite and metal screw reel seat provides secure reel mounting, and the rod is supplied in a padded zipped tube for storage and transport that's more substantial than a standard cloth rod bag.
