Akios Nitron F-16

Overview

The AKIOS Nitron F-16 is a shore casting multiplier reel purpose-built for serious distance work off the beach. At its core sits a one-piece CNC-machined aircraft-grade aluminium X-Frame tournament cage, designed to stay rigid and resist distortion under the loads generated by powerful casts.

Paired with the frame is a micro-tolerance, lateral-balanced tournament spool, also CNC-machined from aluminium and effectively free-floating on a 5mm hardened-steel spindle. The tighter spool-to-cage tolerances this allows mean AKIOS specifies the F-16 can run mainline diameters down to approximately 0.32mm without the line slipping into gaps between spool and cage.

Drive comes from a fast 6.2:1 gear ratio using an oversized 10 x 44mm brass main gear and bronze pinion, delivering around 86cm (34.4in) of line recovery per handle turn. A bearing-supported EVA power handle, Infinite Anti-Reverse with a backup mechanical pawl, and a multi-disc carbon drag rated to 15kg round out a genuinely heavy-duty drivetrain.

Perfect For

This is very much a shore casting multiplier rather than a boat reel, and it's aimed squarely at beach fishing, long-range shore casting, and clean to mixed ground where distance matters. The 13-position QUADRO-MAG+ magnetic brake makes it well suited to powerful pendulum or off-the-ground (OTG) casting styles, letting anglers tune spool control around bait size, lead weight and wind conditions.

With no level wind, line is laid across the spool manually during retrieval, which is a deliberate choice on a reel focused on maximising casting distance. The gearing, drag and drivetrain are also capable of handling serious fish from the shore, covering typical UK shore species such as bass, cod, rays, smoothhounds, huss and pollack depending on venue and tackle.

Technical Insight

The rigidity of the CNC-machined X-Frame is what allows AKIOS to run such tight spool-to-cage tolerances, which in turn is what makes the fine 0.32mm line compatibility possible without line-trapping issues. That rigidity, combined with the free-floating tournament spool on its 5mm spindle and ABEC 5 spool bearings, is what lets the reel achieve high spool speeds when the QUADRO-MAG+ braking is backed off for maximum distance.

The 4+1 bearing system isn't just a bearing count for its own sake — it includes ABEC 5 spool bearings for high-speed rotation, a pinion bearing to maintain gear alignment under load, and the extra bearing supporting the Infinite Anti-Reverse system, backed up by a secondary mechanical AR pawl. Combined with the oversized brass main gear and bronze pinion, this drivetrain is engineered to hold up to both hard casting and fighting larger shore fish.
