Overview

The AKIOS KRAVE KX8 is a long-cast fixed-spool reel built for shore and beach fishing, offering a genuinely capable saltwater setup at a budget-friendly price point.

It's built around a high-strength carbon-composite body and rotor, construction AKIOS describes as suitable for harsh saltwater environments.

Powering the reel is a 4.1:1 gear ratio, driven by 5+1 stainless-steel bearings and an Instant Anti-Reverse (IAR) system for reliable, smooth retrieves.

A machined aluminium handle with Power Grip and a hollow bail arm complete the package, with the whole reel weighing 675g — a proper full-size shore reel rather than a lightweight spinning reel.

Technical Insight

The KX8's Slow Oscillation system moves the spool backwards and forwards relatively slowly as the handle turns, laying line more evenly along the spool and reducing the tendency for line to leave unevenly during a cast — a genuine casting-oriented feature rather than cosmetic marketing.

The carbon-composite body and rotor keep weight down while standing up to saltwater use, and the hollow bail arm further trims unnecessary weight from the design.

The shallow braid spool addresses a common problem on long-cast reels: because braid is much thinner than equivalent-strength mono, filling a deep spool with braid alone can require an excessive amount of line or backing, so the reduced-capacity aluminium spool avoids that waste.
