Penn Warfare II Level wind Left hand

Overview

The PENN Warfare II LWLH is a left-hand retrieve level wind multiplier reel built for straightforward boat fishing performance. It shares the same fundamental construction, gearing, drag and capacities as the standard right-hand Warfare II Level Wind, with the sole difference being the handle position, now mounted on the left-hand side.

Each reel is built around a lightweight graphite frame and sideplates, described by PENN as strong and corrosion resistant. A forged and machined aluminium spool sits alongside machined brass main and pinion gears, giving the reel a solid, purpose-built feel rather than relying on lighter plastic componentry.

Drag is handled by PENN's proven HT-100 carbon-fibre washers, with a published maximum drag of 7kg (approximately 15lb) across all three sizes. An Instant Anti-Reverse bearing provides immediate drivetrain engagement, while Line Capacity Rings on the spool give a visual indicator of remaining line.

Perfect For

The 15LWLH is best suited to anglers wanting a compact general boat multiplier who prefer winding a conventional reel left-handed, and despite its smaller size still holds 305yd of 50lb braid. The 20LWLH steps up to an all-round left-hand boat size, retaining the quick 5.1:1 gearing of the 15 but with considerably more capacity, reaching 865yd of 20lb braid.

The 30LWLH is the heavy-capacity option, with line capacities showing it's intended for heavier work — up to 1020yd of 30lb braid or 590yd of 65lb braid — making it a practical choice for heavier ground, wreck or deeper-water boat fishing where substantial line capacity matters.

Technical Insight

All three models use machined brass for both the main and pinion gears, a detail PENN specifically highlights, contributing to durability under sustained boat-fishing loads. The automatic Level Wind distributes line evenly across the spool during retrieval, which is particularly convenient for boat and bait fishing where line lay can otherwise become uneven.

Gear ratio differs by size: the 15LWLH and 20LWLH both use a faster 5.1:1 retrieve, while the larger 30LWLH steps down to 3.9:1, reflecting its role as the heavier-capacity, more powerful option in the range rather than a fast-retrieve reel.
