Overview

The AKIOS KYORI ST8 and ST10 are long-cast fixed spool reels built for anglers who want a metal-bodied alternative to composite beach reels. Both models use an aluminium TUF-CORE body and rotor, a construction AKIOS says delivers greater stability and rigidity when retrieving under load. The range shares the same 4.6:1 gearing, 8+1 shielded stainless steel bearings and 18lb maximum drag, with the ST10 offering a wider, longer spool for extra capacity over the more compact ST8.

Each reel is fitted with AKIOS's XT WEAVE ultra-slow oscillation system, which lays the line closely and evenly along the spool for smoother, longer casts. TORQUE-X Fast Drag sits above an Advanced Composite Tech multi-disc drag stack, giving anglers swift, precise adjustment from a light setting through to full fighting pressure. Both reels come supplied with two anodised aluminium spools, one deep and one shallow, plus a CNC-machined power handle and large hollow bail arm.

The ST8 suits general-purpose UK beach and shore fishing, offering serious long-cast capability without the extra spool dimensions of its larger sibling. The ST10's increased line capacity and wider spool geometry make it a strong choice for shallow beaches on a flooding tide, deep-water rock marks, or when targeting larger species that demand heavier line or greater reserves.

The aluminium TUF-CORE body and rotor, combined with AKIOS's Anti-Twist rotor design, are engineered to keep the reel stable and rigid when retrieving under load — a genuine advantage over graphite-composite construction when fighting fish or cranking against a strong tide. The XT WEAVE ultra-slow oscillation system moves the spool slowly during retrieve, producing a tighter line lay that translates into cleaner line release and longer casts on the beach.
