Overview

The Rovex VLX LC7000 is a fixed-spool surf reel built specifically for long-distance beach and rock casting, rather than being a generic 7000-size spinning reel adapted for saltwater use.

At its core sits a deep, tapered long-cast spool designed to reduce friction as line pays out during the cast, helping it reach fish holding in distant gutters and channels from the shore.

Construction centres on an aluminium body and aluminium rotor combined with a stainless-steel main shaft, giving the reel a rigid, durable platform without unnecessary bulk — the complete reel weighs 575g, making it manageable for extended sessions on the beach.

The VLX LC7000 is well suited to beachcasting, surf fishing, rock fishing, long-range shore fishing and other heavy shore fishing scenarios where distance and line capacity take priority over fast retrieves.

With line capacity for 260m of 0.45mm mono or 210m of 0.50mm mono, a 4.1:1 gear ratio built for cranking power, and a 26lb (approx. 11.8kg) maximum drag, it's geared towards conventional UK shore bait fishing rather than lure casting — think cod, rays, smoothhound, bass, dogfish, and conger from suitable rock marks.

Technical Insight

Rovex's Super Slow Oscillation system is central to the reel's casting performance, producing more even and precise line lay across the long spool. This is particularly valuable on a surf reel, because poor line lay can undo much of the advantage of a long-cast spool design — Rovex specifically links the system to longer casting, better line lay, reduced tangling and improved performance when running braided line.

Smooth, dependable retrieval comes courtesy of an 8+1 stainless-steel bearing system, chosen for its running smoothness and resistance to corrosion in demanding surf conditions. A heavy-duty bail wire supports reliable line pickup cast after cast, while the screw-in CNC-machined metal handle and large EVA power knob give anglers the grip and leverage needed to wind confidently against the reel's substantial drag.
