The Breakaway Impact Shields 10 Pack is a bait-protection and hook-release system built for clipped-down sea-fishing rigs. Each shield holds the baited hook securely during casting, keeping the hook and bait close to the rig body for a more streamlined cast.

Supplied by Breakaway Tackle, the Impact Shield is a core rig-making component for UK sea anglers who build their own beach and shore rigs. This 10-pack gives rig makers a larger quantity than the standard four-pack, without changing how the product functions.

The shields are available in Red or Black, with Breakaway describing both colours as functionally equivalent bait-release clips. Retaining rubber tubing is included with the pack, used to position the shield securely on the rig body.

Technical Insight

The Impact Shield works by holding the baited hook firmly against the rig during the cast, which protects the bait and reduces drag by keeping the terminal tackle streamlined through the air. Breakaway specifies setting the hook firmly into the shield and using only enough retaining rubber tubing to stop the shield slipping under wind resistance.

On entry into the water, the shield uses a positive release action to eject the hook, rather than relying on leader slack to detach it. This means the snood and bait are freed to fish naturally as soon as the rig hits the water, a key requirement for effective clipped-down beach and shore rig presentation.
