Breakaway Mini Link

Overview

The Breakaway Mini Link is a compact quick-change clip made from heat-treated stainless steel, built to give anglers a neat, low-bulk connection wherever a larger clip would be unnecessary. It is approximately half the size of a standard Breakaway Spinlink, making it one of the smallest quick-change links in the Breakaway range.

The Mini Link (product code ML1) was originally developed at the request of angler Rob Tuck for use with long continental-style rods fitted with small guides, as its compact dimensions allow it to pass through smaller rod rings with ease. It has since become a popular rig-making component for a range of different sea-fishing applications beyond its original purpose.

Each pack contains 10 Mini Links, and Breakaway also offers a 100-pack bulk quantity for anglers who get through plenty of clips. The shape of the Mini Link also allows a swivel to be added where needed, giving extra versatility for rig building.

Perfect For

Lure fishing is one of the Mini Link's strongest applications, and it's particularly popular with UK anglers targeting bass and pollack. The clip allows the lure to be connected directly, so changes can be made quickly without repeatedly cutting and retying the leader, and its small, lightweight build is intended to avoid restricting the lure's natural action.

The Mini Link also works well as a quick-change connection for snoods and hooklengths, letting anglers swap a damaged snood or change hooklength configurations without rebuilding the whole rig. It can additionally be used as a compact lead connection on lighter shore-fishing setups, and where line twist needs controlling, a swivel can be added to create a compact swivel-and-link arrangement.

Technical Insight

The heat-treated stainless steel construction gives the Mini Link the strength needed for quick-change rig components while keeping the overall size and weight down. Being roughly half the size of the larger Spinlink, it's designed to complement rather than duplicate that product – the Spinlink suits heavier, more general shore-rig quick-change work, while the Mini Link is aimed at lures, light rigs, snoods and continental-style setups.

Despite its small size, the Mini Link has reportedly been used to cast 3–4oz leads beyond 150 yards, demonstrating that its compact profile doesn't come at the expense of practical casting performance on lighter setups.
