Gemini Breakers

Overview

Gemini Genie Breakers are a rotten-bottom / weak-link release system built for sea anglers fishing over rocks, kelp, wreckage and other snaggy ground. The main body is stainless steel, using a hinged swinging arm and trigger button to securely hold the sinker during the cast.

Rather than relying on a fragile piece of mono to take the full force of a powerful cast, the Breaker provides a strong mechanical connection while the rig is in flight. Once the rig hits the water, impact operates the release mechanism, the trigger releases the swinging arm, and the sinker is left attached to the rig only by a separate, weaker monofilament link.

If the lead comes back cleanly, nothing changes — you retrieve fish, rig and sinker as normal. It's only if the sinker becomes snagged and pressure is applied that the weak link is designed to part, sacrificing the lead rather than the whole rig.

Perfect For

The Genie Breaker is aimed squarely at rough-ground shore fishing, over seabeds strewn with rocks, boulders, kelp, reefs, broken ground and submerged debris. It's a practical choice for anglers deliberately targeting rough-ground marks where tackle losses are a realistic risk.

It suits heavier rough-ground setups such as a Pulley Pennel rig combined with a rotten bottom, where the Breaker sits between the rig and the sinker. It can also simply be clipped onto an existing shore rig to create an instant weak-link system, making it a flexible addition for anglers already using their own rough-ground rigs.

Technical Insight

The hinged stainless-steel body and trigger-button mechanism is a more engineered solution than a basic bent-wire rotten-bottom clip. During the cast, the trigger keeps the arm locked and the sinker fully supported by the Breaker itself, meaning the casting load isn't placed on the weak mono link at all — this is what makes it suitable for powerful shore casting when correctly rigged.

On water impact, the trigger releases and the arm swings open, transferring the sinker's connection entirely to the chosen weak monofilament link. Gemini doesn't publish a fixed breaking strain for the Breaker itself, since the weak link is a separate mono chosen by the angler to suit the tackle and fishing situation — giving flexibility over how easily the sacrificial connection parts.
