Overview

The PENN Spinfisher VII is a saltwater spinning reel built across nine sizes, from the compact 2500 through to the enormous 10500, giving anglers a genuine size-for-size platform rather than a single reel dressed up in different guises.

Every size shares the same core engineering: an IPX5 sealed body and spool design, a Full Metal Body and sideplate, CNC Gear Technology with a brass main gear, and HT-100 carbon-fibre drag washers housed inside a fully sealed spool.

Running on 5+1 sealed stainless-steel bearings, the reel is finished with an aluminium Superline Spool carrying Line Capacity Rings, an improved line clip, and a handle that can be swapped for right- or left-hand retrieve.

Perfect For

Because the range runs from a lightweight 311g 2500 up to a huge 1094g 10500 with 22.6kg/50lb of max drag, the Spinfisher VII covers an unusually wide spread of UK saltwater fishing.

Smaller sizes such as the 2500 and 3500 suit light saltwater lure fishing, estuary work and general bass or lure fishing, where anglers want the Spinfisher's metal chassis and IPX5 protection in a compact package.

Mid-range sizes like the 4500, 5500 and 6500 step up into heavier lure fishing, rock fishing and general-purpose saltwater spinning, while the 7500, 8500, 9500 and 10500 are built for heavy shore, rock and boat fishing where serious drag power and line capacity are needed.

Technical Insight

The IPX5 sealed body and spool design is intended to keep saltwater out of the gearbox and drag system when the reel is hit by waves or spray, rather than making the reel submersible or waterproof.

A rigid Full Metal Body and sideplate keeps the CNC-machined gear system and brass main gear precisely aligned even when the reel is working hard under heavy drag loads, while the HT-100 carbon-fibre drag washers sit inside a fully sealed spool for smooth, consistent drag pressure that isn't compromised by water or grit ingress.

The 5+1 sealed stainless-steel bearing system, combined with Instant Anti-Reverse — and Instant Anti-Reverse with backup on the 5500 and larger models — gives a dependable retrieve across the whole size range, from the fast-cranking smaller reels through to the high-drag heavyweight sizes built for demanding boat and shore work.
