Overview

ASSO Oblivion Memory Free Line is a nylon monofilament developed specifically for sea-fishing snoods, traces and rig construction, supplied here on economical 4oz bulk spools. ASSO describes it as memory free, ultra soft and supple, with a super-smooth finish, and its product family reference is FNASDI044.

Unlike a conventional stiff mainline, Oblivion has virtually no mechanical memory. This means it doesn't retain the circular shape of the spool, so finished snoods and traces lie straight rather than coiling and curling once tied into a rig.

It's a clear nylon monofilament, not a fluorocarbon, and ASSO's catalogue explicitly categorises it as ASSO Oblivion Nylon Line. There is no verified claim of a fluorocarbon coating on this product.

Perfect For

Oblivion is best positioned as a premium sea-fishing snood and trace line, suited to building flapper rigs, clipped rigs, pulley rigs, Pennel rigs, running ledgers, boat traces, scratching rigs and general shore rigs.

With breaking strains from 15lb through to 40lb, one family of line covers everything from light snoods for scratching and smaller species up to stronger hooklengths for bigger baits and larger fish. Heavier diameters are also suitable for use as a shock leader where appropriate.

The large 4oz bulk spool format is particularly well suited to match anglers, regular rig makers and anyone tying rigs in quantity, since it supplies far more line than a standard 100m retail spool of the same strength.

Technical Insight

The soft, supple, memory-free construction is the defining engineering feature of Oblivion. A conventional stiff monofilament can retain the coiled shape of the spool once cut for a long hook snood, leaving unwanted curls in the finished rig; Oblivion is specifically designed to avoid this.

This same easy-handling construction also makes knots straightforward to tie, with ASSO stating that even beginners can form good knots easily. Because thicker diameters occupy more volume per metre, the length supplied on each 4oz spool naturally decreases as breaking strain increases, from around 800m at 15lb down to around 360m at 40lb.
