Overview

Ultima Distance 4oz Fire Orange is a specialist nylon monofilament mainline developed primarily for maximum casting performance. It was engineered in cooperation with the UKSF (UK Surfcasting Federation) to meet the tight diameter tolerances demanded by international tournament casting.

Ultima describes the line as soft, smooth and supple, with a consistently controlled diameter through the range. It's silicone impregnated to reduce resistance as it leaves the spool, and it carries good knot strength and abrasion resistance for practical fishing use.

The line is supplied on a 4oz bulk spool, which is sold by weight rather than a fixed length, so the amount of line you get varies depending on the diameter/breaking strain you choose.

Ultima Distance is widely used as a mainline for UK beach and surf fishing, where casting distance is a priority. The finer 6-10lb diameters are aimed at anglers chasing outright casting performance, while 25-30lb options offer more strength and diameter for heavier applications.

For everyday shore fishing, the 12lb/0.33mm, 15lb/0.35mm, 18lb/0.38mm and 20lb/0.40mm diameters are likely to be the most relevant, depending on venue, ground and reel setup. The Fire Orange colour is especially useful for watching your line's direction at distance, distinguishing it from other anglers' lines, and keeping track of it under a headtorch at night.

It's worth noting this is a mainline, not a shock leader — 12lb or 15lb Distance is designed for long casting, not for absorbing the shock load of launching a heavy beach lead, so an appropriate shock leader should still be used for powerful beach casting.
