Gemini 100lb Power Swivels

Overview

Gemini Genie 100lb Power Swivels are compact, heavy-duty rolling swivels built for the higher-load connections within sea-fishing rigs. Each swivel carries a published breaking strain of 100lb / approximately 45.4kg, making it the strongest model in Gemini's standard Genie swivel range, above the 80lb Mainline and 45lb Snood versions.

Despite the high breaking strain, Gemini specifically emphasises the swivel's compact construction, with an approximate length of 17.5mm. This keeps finished rigs neater, lighter and less bulky while still providing a substantial load rating.

Construction is generally recorded as brass with a nickel-plated finish, which Veals describes as corrosion resistant. It's worth noting a retailer discrepancy exists, as TackleUK lists the 100lb Power model as stainless steel, but Gemini's separate Stainless Steel Swivel range (available in 60lb, 100lb and 140lb) makes brass/nickel the more convincing specification for this G3804 product.

Gemini specifically recommends the 100lb Power Swivel for use at the top of a rig body or at the end of a shock leader, distinguishing it from the smaller 45lb Snood Swivel intended for hooklength connections.

Specialist sea-fishing retailer Veals also identifies it for pulley rigs, where substantial loads pass through the main connection components, and it's a sensible choice for long-range and extreme-distance shore rigs where compact, strong components are valued over bulky ones.

The swivel also suits heavier clipped-down rigs where additional component strength is desired, such as those built for heavy leads, powerful casting or rough-ground fishing around rocks, reefs, kelp and broken ground, provided every other component in the rig is appropriately specified.

Technical Insight

The rolling-swivel design creates a rotating connection between two sections of tackle, helping prevent rotation lower down the rig from transferring excessive twist into the line above. This is particularly useful when baits and terminal tackle rotate in tide, surf or current, or during retrieval, and the rolling construction gives a relatively compact package compared with traditional barrel-swivel designs.
