Overview

Gemini Premium Pulley Beads are a dedicated pulley-rig component supplied by Gemini for anglers building their own sea-fishing rigs. Sold in packs of five, each bead is a compact fitting designed to create the moving connection at the heart of a pulley rig, allowing the leader or rig body to run freely through it.

Unlike a standard rolling swivel, whose primary job is rotation, the Premium Pulley Bead is built specifically to let line move through the component so the pulley mechanism can function once a fish is hooked. This distinction matters because a pulley component can become a genuinely load-bearing part of the terminal tackle when a rig is under pressure during retrieval.

Technical Insight

The bead's pulley action works by allowing the rig body and leader to move through the component under load. When a fish is hooked and the angler applies pressure during retrieval, this movement lets the sinker's position shift relative to the rest of the rig, drawing it upward toward the fish rather than dragging it directly along the seabed.

This doesn't make a rig completely snag-proof, but reducing the time the lead spends in contact with rough ground is one of the main reasons pulley rigs remain such a popular rig-building choice for rough-ground shore fishing, and for cod fishing in particular.
