Overview

Sunset Amnesia Black is a memory-free monofilament line built specifically for sea-fishing hook snoods, traces and rig construction. It's the original dark version of Sunset's well-known Amnesia range, prized by UK sea anglers for its extremely low memory and dependable performance on the rig board.

If the line becomes twisted or coiled, a firm stretch is enough to help straighten it back out, keeping snoods sitting cleanly rather than kinking on the trace. Alongside this low memory, Amnesia Black is tangle resistant, easy to knot and abrasion resistant, making it a trusted choice for rig builders who need a line they can rely on trip after trip.

It is a true monofilament rather than a fluorocarbon, so its main selling points are practical rig-building qualities rather than refractive or invisibility claims. The Black finish simply offers a dark alternative to conventional clear snood material, while retaining all of the same low-memory characteristics.

Perfect For

Amnesia Black is at home on flapper rigs, clipped rigs, pulley rigs, Pulley Pennels, paternosters and boat traces, wherever an appropriate breaking strain is matched to the job. Lighter and medium strengths suit general hook snoods and scratching rigs, while heavier versions step up to heavier traces and rig-body applications.

It's equally suited to shore fishing and boat fishing, giving anglers building their own rigs a single, versatile snood material across a wide span of breaking strains. Heavier Amnesia breaking strains can also be used as rig-body material, extending its usefulness beyond just the hooklength.

Technical Insight

The defining feature of Amnesia Black is its very low memory. Conventional monofilament can hold coils and kinks after being spooled or stored, but Amnesia's construction resists this, and any twist that does occur can be worked out with a simple stretch of the line.

This, combined with good knot strength and abrasion resistance, means snoods and traces tied from Amnesia Black sit straight and tangle-free on the rig, tie down securely at the knot, and stand up to the wear and tear of contact with the seabed, fish and terminal tackle. Standard breaking strains are supplied on 100m spools, with the heaviest 50lb (and 60lb, where stocked) versions supplied on 50m spools to reflect the thicker diameter and reduced yardage.
